Here you can find information on upcoming in-person needle felting and fiber related classes taught by fiber artist, (that's me) Val Hebert. I am committed to helping you learn the fun, forgivable and relaxing craft of needle felting. Simply read the descriptions of the class workshops and decide the one that is right for you. I can also hold workshops in your space, where I come to you bringing all the necessary materials. Simply reach out to me via email to confirm the workshop project, verify the date, price & pay fees, and you are done! I will show up on the predetermined date. You can sit back and relax while I lead the craft. Easy, peasy!

Sign Up for a Needle Felting Class & Change Your World!

Informative 2-D and 3-D sculpted wool needle felted workshops are as fun and amazing as the project looks! Beginners are welcome! Take a couples class! Perfect for a friends activity!

Suitable for a novice crafter, we will learn the basics of needle felting from start to finish in each of these informative workshops, then will experiment with adding personalization, according to the individual project. Learn, hone and improve your needle felting skills in an interactive and informative workshop.

Previous experience is NOT required and ALL materials (including tools!) are provided. I promise lots of fun, learning, and you will leave with a New Skill AND an adorable project completed during our workshop. Hooray! Signing up ahead of time guarantees your seat, walk-ins are not available. Please arrive on time so you may get settled. Classes begin and important information is given promptly at the start time listed. Classes last approximately 3-6 hours (as noted), or as fast as you work. Any questions, shoot me an email here. Note: Classes are suitable for youth age 10 and up, youth under age 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Private classes for a minimum of at least 3 students are available at a reduced pricing structure. Most people will take the entire class timeframe to complete the projects.

Class location is noted in each workshop descriptions. Current locations are my artistic studio in the San Diego Made Factory building, located in Logan Heights area of San Diego. Or, the San Diego Craft Collective, located in Liberty Station, San Diego. Occasionally I teach at Fiber Circle Studios in beautiful Petaluma CA. Please make sure you note the class location when you sign up.

PLEASE NOTE: DO NOT purchase the workshop if it is marked SOLD OUT! There will NOT be a reserved seat or materials for you. Workshops often fill up quickly so it is recommended you sign up as soon as possible. Wait lists are not offered, and cancellations are rare. If you sign up and miss the class, your fee is not able to be refunded as your seat is saved and class materials are prepped specifically for you. I will work with you to attempt to reschedule your class to another day and time.

NOTE: All group workshops are taught in an indoor studio, so you will be sitting near another classmate. Please stay home if you feel you are sick. I am happy to make arrangements with you so you can take another workshop if you are sick on the day of class.

Courses are held indoors, so we suggest:
• Dress in layers so you can adjust to the studio temperature. Summer months tend to be very warm in studio.
• Bring water/beverage and a snack if you need to be comfortable.

Needle felting Classes ARE suitable for the novice needle felter! You will learn the wonderful and relaxing craft of needle felting in a fun and informative workshop. Your project will have an amazing amount of personality, I promise you! You will be DELIGHTED with your finished needle felted art piece that you can take right home and display proudly in your home!

*Please read the **Needle Felting Tools List** below! All materials are provided for each class. Students will be able to use my basic tools as part of their class workshop. Needle felting tools and project kits will be available for purchase if desired.

You will learn the following techniques in any of my 3-D needle felting classes:

• How to work with needle felting tools

• Establishing a solid woolen form, learning to create a substructure that will not collapse over time

• Sculpt your form into a desired shape

• Applying color to your shaped form

• Color mixing wool roving

• Creating a solid base so your form stands on it's own

• Adding small needle felted details

• Attaching additional forms or added fabrics to your needle felted form so the two will not separate

• Sewing into your needle felted form to give added details

• From these techniques learned in class, you will be able to work independently at home creating additional shaped dolls in this manner.

Additional kits may be purchased on the day of the class for $35.00. 

Most of my classes are suitable for the person who has never needle felted before. Please do not feel intimidated! Needle felting is a very forgivable craft, and I am there to help you every step of the way. You won't want to miss out learning from an experienced teacher, and will enjoy the camaraderie and fellowship in taking a local class from me, Val.

Workshops are not refundable should you need to cancel, however we can select a new date based on availability.

Private Workshops Are Available!

Hone your needle felting skills or learn a new skill in interactive and informative 1-on-1 or very small group classes for you and a friend or two. All suitable for the novice felter, we learn how to create a solid wool base form then turn it into a charming soft sculpture, adding embellishments to personalize your project. You will take home a finished “friend” at the end of the class. Absolutely fun & charming!

NOTE: These are not “set” class dates or times. Purchasing an option below means you will work with Val to set up a day and time that is mutually convenient for you/your group.

Needle Felting Tools List:

To take a needle felting class, you will need some tools, but please do not worry. I provide everything you need for each class. Additional tools are available for purchase from me after the class should you want to continue working on your newfound craft at home. Here is a list of the minimum tools you will need:

• Needle felting needles, size Fine. I recommend a replacement pack of 5 needles. They do break easily when you are just learning. 

• A foam style mat to place under your work (for 3-D needle felting classes)

• A brush style needle felting mat to place under your work (for FLAT needle felting classes), optional, as foam mats work too.

• A tool that can hold multiple needle felting needles (optional, but preferred)

• Wool roving, discussed in class

• A pair of small sharp scissors

• Cheater style glasses, if needed. We work small :o)

Note: You may wish to attend a class with a young person. I recommend these classes for patient youngsters who are able to sit and work diligently on a project for several hours at a stretch, preferably age 10 and above.
